FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is general anaesthesia dangerous?

Every operation is carried out with anaesthesia support: an anaesthesiologist monitors the patient's condition before, during and after the procedure, and the necessary preparation and examination are done beforehand.

Will it hurt after the operation?

How it feels depends on the extent of the operation. The doctor explains the pain relief plan and how recovery goes in advance.

How long does the swelling last?

Swelling is individual and depends on the type of operation. The doctor discusses the exact timeframe at the consultation.

When can I go back to work?

It depends on the extent of the procedure. The patient receives guidance on the timing in advance, at the planning stage.

Will my face change too much?

The goal of surgery is not to make the face unrecognisable, but to improve function, proportions and the harmony of the features.

Will there be scars?

It depends on the type of operation. The doctor explains the incisions and any possible marks in advance; the approach is often made inside the mouth, leaving no visible scars on the skin.

Can it be managed without surgery?

If surgery is not indicated, the doctor will suggest an alternative or refer the patient to the right specialist.

What should I send before the consultation?

A CT scan, X-ray images, photographs of the face from different angles and a description of the complaints - that is enough for the doctor to get an initial understanding of the case.

What is orthognathic surgery in plain words?

It is the surgical correction of the position of the jaws in cases of an incorrect bite and facial asymmetry.

Can a tooth be removed under general anaesthesia?

Yes, when there are indications for it and after the patient's condition has been assessed.

Can I have the operation without tests?

No. A pre-operative examination is a mandatory condition for carrying out surgery safely.

Does every patient stay in hospital?

No. After minor procedures the patient can be discharged home on the day of surgery. After more extensive operations the length of observation is decided individually by the treating doctor.

Can I come with my own orthodontist?

Yes. We are ready to work together with the orthodontist who is already treating you. If you are being seen at another clinic, that is no obstacle to surgery.

Is every operation performed under general anaesthesia?

No. The choice of pain relief depends on the extent of the operation and on medical indications, and it is discussed with the doctor at the consultation. Some procedures are performed under local anaesthesia.

How much does a consultation cost?

A consultation with a plastic or maxillofacial surgeon costs 10,000 ₸. A joint consultation with a surgeon and an orthodontist about orthognathic treatment costs 12,000 ₸. The doctor examines the patient, assesses the situation, answers questions and draws up a treatment plan.
