Cheiloplasty using the "bullhorn" technique changes the shape of the upper lip surgically. The incision runs along the base of the nose - after healing the suture ends up in an area where it is barely noticeable. The operation is most often performed under local anaesthesia; general anaesthesia is possible when there are indications for it or at the patient's request, and is paid for separately.
The surgeon selects the scope of the correction to suit the proportions of that particular face, not a template of "beautiful lips". The operation works with the shape of the lip: it does not change the condition of the skin around the mouth, the position of the teeth or the bite. If the cause lies in them, the doctor will say so at the examination.
